Your Role: The Technical Backbone at the Tactical Edge
At BSS Holland, you operate where connectivity is contested, not guaranteed. As an SME Technical Support Engineer, you are the go-to expert for customers building, deploying, and operating decentralized C5ISR ecosystems in demanding operational environments.
This role goes far beyond traditional support. You empower operators, solve critical technical problems under pressure, and drive innovation at the tactical edge where reliability can mean mission success.
What You Will Do
Empower Customers
- Deliver technical demonstrations, training sessions, and hands-on support
- Enable customers to become confident, self-sufficient operators
- Support field tests, exercises, and operational deployments
- Troubleshoot across the full stack: hardware, operating systems, applications, and networks
- Diagnose and resolve issues in high-stakes tactical scenarios
- Provide 24/7 support when required, including on-site field support
- Optimize solutions for real-world edge constraints such as limited bandwidth, power, and rugged conditions
- Work with cutting-edge platforms used in defense and security environments
- Contribute to next-generation systems (AI/ML, resilient communications, edge computing)
- Document best practices and operational procedures
- Develop technical training materials
- Mentor colleagues and customer teams on emerging tactical technologies
- Windows: Advanced configuration and administration; Windows 10 IoT Core
- Linux & Embedded: Kernel management, shell scripting, systemd, Yocto Project (meta-layers, recipes)
- Raspberry Pi: ARM optimization, bootloader/kernel tuning, Raspbian/PI OS deployment
- Android: OS architecture, application development principles, system optimization for tactical devices
- Deep understanding of OSI Layers 1–3
- Configuration and deployment of tactical routers and gateways (Fortigate, VyOS, OpenWrt, Cisco, proprietary systems)
- MANET systems: hands-on experience with platforms such as Trellisware, DoodleLabs, Microhard, Silvus
- Streaming & protocols: RTSP, RTMP, UDP, MPEG-TS
- Video compression and real-time distribution: H.264 / H.265
- Media toolchain: GStreamer, FFmpeg, MediaMTX, VLC
- Legacy video integration (composite-to-digital bridging)
- SDR proficiency at Amateur Radio (N-license) level or equivalent
- UAV experience: ArduPilot, Mission Planner, UXV platforms
- Understanding of C5ISR, decentralized command & control (C2), sensor fusion, and data interoperability
- Fluent in English (Dutch is a strong plus)
