Senior Fire Assay Manager

Mission of the Role

Cotecna Lab UK aims to deliver world-class metals and minerals testing services, completing our global network with a purpose-built, ISO17025-accredited facility. Positioned at the heart of European trade, we provide accurate, impartial, and rapid analyses to support critical supply chains and energy transition markets.

The Senior Fire Assay Manager will be responsible to lead the department in delivering accurate, ISO17025-compliant analyses through efficient workflows, technical expertise, and strict safety standards. They will ensure timely turnaround, maintain quality documentation, and foster team development to achieve operational excellence.

Key Responsibilities

- Coordinate and supervise staffing resources within the fire assay department to ensure smooth work flow.

- Organize and manage sample throughput within the fire assay department to ensure full utilization of equipment and resources.

- Provide technical support with respect to methodologies utilized within the fire assay department

- Ensure Quality of analysis is compliant to ISO17025 standards.

- Ensure turnaround times are met for the fire assay department.

- Manage the maintenance of all documentation for department in line with the quality requirements.

- Ensure the safe operation of all tasks within the department in line with all risk assessments.

- Assist in any investigations relating to non-conforming work and implement any corrective actions as required

- Give training to staff as required and complete annual performance reviews with the laboratory manager.

- Maintain stock levels of fire assay reagents and consumables.

- Organize and manage blood testing for staff within the department.

- Attend laboratory meeting as required.

- Manage day to day HR functions such as holiday approval.

- Any other tasks assigned by the laboratory management.

Qualifications, Experience and Technical Skills

- Minimum of five years’ experience working within fire assay essential.

- Previous experience working within an ISO 17025 laboratory desirable

- Minimum of three years management experience essential

- Full technical knowledge of Fire assay process and how it works in relation to metals and minerals.

- Good communication and listening skills.

- Ability to influence and effect change.

- Ability to manage own workload including prioritisation of tasks and working to deadlines.

- Good IT skills including but not limited to Microsoft Office (eg Word, Excel, Powerpoint, etc).
